Registered Nurse - Clinical outpatients
At St Luke’s Hospice, we believe everyone deserves to live as well as possible, with compassionate care, support and dignity. We are looking for a compassionate, skilled and motivated Registered Nurse to join our nursing team in Clinical outpatients and help us deliver outstanding, person centred palliative and end of life care to patients and their families.
This is an opportunity to use your clinical expertise to make a meaningful difference, supporting patients with complex needs while working collaboratively with a dedicated multidisciplinary team.
About the role
As a Registered Nurse, you will play a key role in assessing, planning and delivering high quality holistic care, ensuring that each patient’s physical, emotional, psychological, social, spiritual and cultural needs are recognised and met.
You will work closely with patients, families, carers and colleagues across the Hospice and community services to ensure care is coordinated, compassionate and tailored to individual needs.
Your responsibilities will include:
Delivering excellent clinical care: Undertake holistic assessments, develop individualised care plans and regularly review patients’ needs to ensure care remains appropriate and effective.
Using your clinical skills: Carry out clinical procedures such as venepuncture, cannulation, intravenous medication administration, blood product transfusions, ascitic drainage and central venous catheter (CVC) line care. Training will be provided where required competencies have not yet been achieved.
Working collaboratively: Actively participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, contribute to patient reviews and ensure effective handovers and communication between professionals.
Supporting patients and families: Provide sensitive, compassionate support to patients, relatives and carers throughout illness and end of life care, maintaining confidentiality and building trusting relationships.
Promoting safety and quality: Ensure medications, treatments and clinical interventions are delivered safely and in line with Hospice policies, procedures and professional standards. Maintain accurate and timely clinical records using SystmOne.
Coordinating care: Work in partnership with Hospice and community teams to ensure patients receive appropriate support and wherever possible, avoid unnecessary or inappropriate hospital admissions.
Supporting and developing colleagues: Contribute to the learning and development of colleagues, support students and new team members, and participate in clinical supervision, reflective practice and team debriefs.
Maintaining professional development: Keep up to date with current research and evidence based practice, attend mandatory training and study days, and contribute to clinical audits and service improvement.
Taking responsibility: Support the day to day running of Clinical Outpatients, taking charge of a shift when required and helping to maintain high standards of care, safety and teamwork.

About St. Luke's Hospice
We are a local charity providing compassionate care to people whose illnesses are no longer curable. We promote dignity in dying and empower people to make the choices they want, from the moment they are diagnosed.
Our care considers people’s medical, spiritual and emotional needs, including support for loved ones and carers. Anyone living in Basildon and Thurrock can call on us 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Working alongside other healthcare providers, our specialist services are available at the hospice, out in the community or in a person’s place of residence. Together, we fulfil people’s choices at the end of their life.
We are a charity and the services we provide are free. We rely on voluntary income from local people to deliver the care they deserve.
