Our workplace and culture
St. Luke's Hospice is a vibrant and positive place to work. With over 270 employees and 400 volunteers working across our two Hospices (Basildon and Thurrock), our 11 retail shops throughout South West Essex and out in the community we serve. We are a registered charity with an open and innovative environment where colleagues can get together and collaborate (especially where tea and cake is involved!) There's always plenty of movement and people gathering to have meetings or coffee catch ups.
Our best work is done together. We offer support, are passionate on creating a sense of belonging and work with a spirit of collective improvement.
Much has changed at St. Luke's Hospice since we first opened over 30 years ago and our future will be an exciting journey as we strive to continuously improve and ensure equity of access to the care we provide, keeping us at the forefront of end of life and palliative care.

Belonging, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
Every single one of us brings something important to the organisation. There should be no barriers to us realising our potential because of who we are or where we have come from. Therefore, our work on equity, diversity, inclusion, and creating a sense of belonging is so important to us. It sets out the kind of organisation we want to work for.
We take a collaborative approach and collective ownership of our ambitions, with our People team working closely with our vibrant and engaged support groups and networks as well as our EDI Strategy Group, to define our approach and to celebrate our talented and diverse team.

About St. Luke's Hospice
We are a local charity providing compassionate care to people whose illnesses are no longer curable. We promote dignity in dying and empower people to make the choices they want, from the moment they are diagnosed.
Our care considers people’s medical, spiritual and emotional needs, including support for loved ones and carers. Anyone living in Basildon and Thurrock can call on us 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Working alongside other healthcare providers, our specialist services are available at the hospice, out in the community or in a person’s place of residence. Together, we fulfil people’s choices at the end of their life.
We are a charity and the services we provide are free. We rely on voluntary income from local people to deliver the care they deserve.
