This is an exciting opportunity for a committed individual to join our team as a Relief Shop Manager. You will play a crucial role in managing our charity shops, ensuring effective operations and making a significant contribution to our fundraising goals.
Role Overview
As a Relief Shop Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of different charity shops as needed. You will bring your experience in retail management to support our core teams, deliver excellent customer service, and maximise sales and profitability.
Main Responsibilities
- Manage shop operations in the absence of the regular Shop Manager, including team management.
- Ensure high standards of customer service are maintained.
- Oversee stock management, merchandising and shop layout to drive sales.
- Maintain accurate financial and administrative records in line with Hospice policies.
- Support the recruitment, training, and development of volunteers.
- Promote the work of St Luke’s Hospice to the local community and build strong donor relationships.
About You
- Proven experience in a retail management role, preferably within the charity sector.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to meet sales targets and work within budgets.
- Flexible approach and willingness to travel between different shop locations.
- Proficient in IT and retail software systems.
Location and Hours
Location: Various St Luke's Hospice retail locations across South West Essex
Salary: £23,329 per year
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, including weekends as needed
Contract: Permanent

Working alongside other healthcare providers, our specialist services are available at the hospice, out in the community or in a person’s place of residence. Together, we fulfil people’s choices at the end of their life.
We are a charity and the services we provide are free. We rely on voluntary income from local people to deliver the care they deserve.
